Blackpool Illuminations September 2009

Organized by the North West Military Collectors Association all military vehicle owners were invited to take part in an attempt to create a record of the longest military vehicle convoy to drive through the Blackpool Illuminations on Saturday 12th September 2009.

A majority of the vehicles met at the Great Birchwood Country Park, Lytham, leaving there at 7.00pm.We arrived at Pontins, to form the convoy at 7.45pm and waited and waited and waited.

At 9.15 we eventually got near to the start of the illuminations, however with extreme traffic congestion on the promenade, many in the convoy decided to return back to Great Birchwood or home.

A second attempt was made on Saturday 3rd October. Starting from the Red Lion Pub in Bispham at 21:00.

Unfortunately I was not able to be present, however to view some photo's of the evening please click here.

An Abbot SPG and a FV432 with a Rarden gun turret also joined the convoy.
